THE MANTLE OF ELIJAH
There
is a story in the Old Testament about the prophet Elijah and his
successor who became the prophet Elisha. Elisha began his ministry as a
servant to Elijah as he was in the field plowing twelve yolk of oxen.
Elijah approached Elisha and threw his mantle upon him. This was the
first mantle that Elisha received from Elijah. Each day Elisha followed
Elijah closely and would not leave him for a moment. After a season in
which Elisha had served Elijah, the Lord was coming to take Elijah. He
obviously knew this because he asked Elisha; What may I do for you
before I am taken away? Elisha responded; I want a double portion of your Spirit
(anointing). This word for spirit in the original Hebrew context is
ruwach which is breath, wind, spirit. It is referring to the living breath of God, a living mantle.
Elijah replied, if you see me when I am taken from you it shall be so.
Soon after, a chariot of fire with horses of fire appeared, separated
them and took Elijah up to heaven in a whirlwind. His mantle fell upon
Elisha and he received a double portion of Elijah's anointing. Elisha's ministry did not began until Elijah's ministry ended.
The
Lord is showing me that many of you have gone through great distress
and are still mourning the loss of prophets and mentors who have gone to
be with the Lord in the past few years. You are still looking up
wondering why Elijah was taken away. The
Lord showed me that the Elisha's who have been following the Elijah's
(who have been taken up) are going to receive a double portion of their
mantle (anointing). The prophetic sons and daughters will
succeed the ministries of their spiritual mentors in the coming days.
There will be an acceleration of the anointing that was placed on them
and their ceilings will be our floors.
In
2 Kings 2:11 a chariot of fire appeared with horses of fire and a
whirlwind took Elijah up. Elijah's mantle then dropped down and Elisha
picked it up. This is
the second time a mantle from Elijah was placed upon Elisha. The first
mantle was in the book of 1 Kings 19:19 as Elisha began serving Elisha,
and the second time was in the book of 2 Kings 2:13 as he began to serve
the Lord. He then stood on the bank of the Jorden River,
struck the water and asked: Where is the Lord God of Elijah?" The Lord
responded by dividing the water and Elisha crossed over. Elisha then had
a ministry of miracles, signs and wonders. Even after he died and was
buried, a man was raised from the dead when his body touched Elisha's
bones as it was thrown into his grave. (2 Kings 13:21)
There
is a mantle of prophetic authority being released. There are prophetic
voices being raised up across the country and around the world. They are
carrying a new sound and a fresh word. They will have ministries of
signs and wonders, and miracles will be performed through their hands as
the anointing rests upon them and abides within them. Just as Elijah
was fed by the ravens, they will teach others how to be fed
supernaturally in times of famine. They will decree a thing and it shall
be established because the Lord will confirm the words that He gives
them to speak.
The anointing will be evident on them
just as the sons of the prophets recognized that the spirit of Elijah
rested on Elisha. Scoffers will ridicule them just as they mocked Elisha
saying , "Go up, you bald head. "They were not mocking his physical appearance, but they were mocking his anointing. They were insinuating that he "Go up" in the same way that Elijah went up in a horse and Chariot. (2 Kings 2:23), But once again the Lord will defend His messengers and prophets. (1 Chronicles 16:22 and 2 Chronicles 36:16)
There
will be men and women who have put their hands to the plow and not
looked back. Their past is a vague memory because they know their
destiny in God.They are those who know how to call down
fire from heaven to destroy the works of Baal. Through their decrees and
declarations they will thwart the strategies of the kingdom of
darkness. They know how to dismantle his works of mass destruction and
destroy the plans from the camp of the evil one. They walk in divine
wisdom, release unprecedented revelation and have keen discernment. The
sword of the Lord will be in their mouths and they will be tenacious
and unwavering in their faith because their strength is in Jesus. They
are those who follow him closely and will not deviate off the narrow
path. The Holy Spirit will lead them and give them supernatural wisdom
and direction when the river dries up. These are those who will receive a
double portion anointing. Supernatural encounters and signs will follow
those who believe and many shall be used mightily in the days ahead
says the Lord.
2 Kings 2:9-14
And
so it was, when they had crossed over, that Elijah said to Elisha,
"Ask! What may I do for you, before I am taken away from you?" Elisha
said, "Please let a double portion of your spirit be upon me." So he
said, "You have asked a hard thing. Nevertheless, if you see me when I
am taken from you, it shall be so for you; but if not, it shall not be
so." Then it happened, as they continued on and talked, that suddenly a
chariot of fire appeared with horses of fire, and separated the two of
them; and Elijah went up by a whirlwind into heaven. And Elisha saw it,
and he cried out, "My father, my father, the chariot of Israel and its
horsemen!" So he saw him no more. And he took hold of his own clothes
and tore them into two pieces. He also took up the mantle of Elijah that
had fallen from him, and went back and stood by the bank of the Jordan.
Then he took the mantle of Elijah that had fallen from him, and struck
the water, and said, "Where is the Lord God of Elijah?" And when he also
had struck the water, it was divided this way and that; and Elisha
crossed over
Psalm 105:15
Touch not mine anointed, and do my prophets no harm.
Malachi 4:5-6
Behold,
I will send you Elijah the prophet before the coming of the great and
dreadful day of the Lord. And he will turn the hearts of the fathers to
the children, and the hearts of the children to their fathers, lest I
come and strike the earth with a curse.
