THE VOICE OF GOD
There
was a time when the voice of the Lord was rare and there was no
widespread revelation. (1 Samuel chapter 3:1) A young boy named Samuel
ministered before the Lord alongside of the High priest Eli wearing a
linen ephod. The Lord called out to Samuel one day during the night
three times but Samuel didn't recognize God's voice until Eli perceived
that it was the Lord calling him. He told Samuel to go and answer him
the next time that he calls. Samuel then went back, and the Lord called
out to him a fourth time. Samuel replied; "Speak, for Your servant
hears." He then recognized God's voice for the first time. Samuel grew
up as a great prophet and prophesied with accuracy and precision. The bible says that none of his words fell to the ground, meaning that every prophetic word that he spoke came to pass.
The
Holy Spirit is speaking to every believer today. He speaks in dreams
and in visions of the night. He speaks in the secret place, he speaks
through nature, he speaks in the desert, the wilderness and he even
speaks in the lion’s den. In the New Covenant that Jesus made with us,
we don't have to be in the five fold ministry or be a prophet to hear
his voice. How much more should you be able to hear his voice then the
prophets of old because the same Spirit that raised Jesus from the dead
dwells in you and quickens your mortal body. Your body is the temple of
the Holy Spirit and He is speaking to you, but some of you are not
recognizing His voice.
As
I was writing this word the Lord showed me someone tuning up a piano. I
did a google search for piano tuning and this is what I found. To tune a
piano you have to make adjustments to the tensions of the strings of
the piano to properly align the intervals between their tones so that
the instrument is in tune. Fine tuning a piano requires an assessment of
the vibration interaction among notes, which is different for every
piano. Many factors cause pianos to go out of tune, particularly
atmospheric changes. Some of you may have gone out of sync with Jesus
and your hearing needs to be tuned up. The Holy Spirit wants to fine
tune your hearing to hear his voice.
As
you go to sleep at night with expectation you will be more receptive to
hear from him in your dreams. As you quiet your mind and posture
yourself in an attitude of prayer, you will learn how to hear and become
more sensitive to his voice when you pray. As you prepare yourself by
conforming to his ways, renewing your mind and attending to his words
you will become more attuned to his voice. When you free your mind from
the cares of this world you will begin to hear with more clarity. As you
read the word of God and meditate upon it, you will begin to discern
his plans for you. As you lift your voice to him in praise and worship,
you will begin to hear him in the song. You will then begin to rise
above your circumstances and rest in his presence. As you go about your
day, listen for his voice. Know that you are entitled to hear from him
as your inheritance as a child of God.
1 Samuel 3:19
So Samuel grew, and the LORD was with him and let none of his words fall to the ground.
1 Samuel 9:6a
And
he said to him, "Look now, there is in this city a man of God, and he
is an honorable man; all that he says surely comes to pass.
1 Samuel 10:6
Then the Spirit of the Lord will rush upon you, and you will prophesy with them and be turned into another man.
