COME UP HIGHER
Back
in the 1990’s into the 2000’s I attended many meetings where believers
would “soak” in the presence of God. Some people would lay on the floor,
some would remain in their chairs but everyone was there for one
reason. We were there for an inevitable, supernatural intervention of
God. We were there to pull heaven down into our reality and have
encounters with the living God. Ministers would worship on the
instruments and the Holy Spirit showed up in a tangible way every time.
In
these meetings we were never in a hurry and just pressed in until the
manifested presence of God filled the sanctuary. Many times it was
difficult to even walk out of the building because the presence of God
was so palpable. The gifts of the Holy Spirit were so prevalent with
healings, prophetic words, words of knowledge and even miracles. In
several of the conferences that I attended with friends we were so
intoxicated in the anointing that when we went to lunch we were still
caught up in His presence. There were times when we had words of
knowledge and prophetic words for the waitresses and people accepted
Jesus in the restaurants.
The
prophets and teachers back in that day taught us how to enter into that
anointing and walk in it. We were taught how to spend time in the
secret place to hear from God. We were taught how to create an
atmosphere to host the Holy Spirit. The key was that we were never in a
hurry. We learned how to enter into this same place in our own homes and
groups. There was so much hunger and excitement for the things of God
in those days. There was no division and the love of God was so evident
among us. There was no competition, but only unity of the Spirit and we
were all free from the bondage of religious tradition. There were times
when we prayed in the Spirit for hours on end. This brought us into a
deeper place.
The
Holy Spirit is about to bring us into a new place of His presence. He
wants us to go beyond what we had in the past. He wants to fill His
church with the presence of God as He did in 2 Chronicles 5:13-14 when
the priests were not able to stand as the Shekinah glory cloud filled
the temple. He wants to visit us as He did on the day of Pentecost when
they tarried in prayer for the Holy Spirit in the Upper Room. Then He
came and the room was shaken and they were all filled with the Holy
Spirit and spoke in other tongues. That created a movement that
continued with the apostles and brought many miracles, signs and wonders
and multitudes were saved.
There
is a great shifting and the Lord is separating the true prophets from
the false. He is looking for someone who could minister with this costly
anointing. He is looking for those who will spend time with Him. What
I’m seeing today is that some believers are no longer seeking Jesus but
they are looking for a word from God. They don’t spend time in His word
or prayer. The internet is flooded with live streams of people
prophesying to those with itching ears. They are not all false prophets
but some are prophesying out of their souls. We need to see more
intimacy and hunger for a personal relationship with Jesus. The Lord is
looking for those who hunger and thirst after righteousness and they
will be filled. He is about to pour out His Spirit once again.
2 Chronicles 5:13-14
Indeed it came to pass, when the trumpeters and singers were as
one, to make one sound to be heard in praising and thanking the Lord,
and when they lifted up their voice with the trumpets and cymbals and
instruments of music, and praised the Lord, saying: “For He is good, for His mercy endures forever,”that the house, the house of the Lord, was filled with a cloud, so that the priests could not [e]continue ministering because of the cloud; for the glory of the Lord filled the house of God.
Acts 2:1-4
When the Day of Pentecost had fully come, they were all [a]with
one accord in one place. And suddenly there came a sound from heaven,
as of a rushing mighty wind, and it filled the whole house where they
were sitting. Then there appeared to them [b]divided tongues, as of fire, and one sat
upon each of them. And they were all filled with the Holy Spirit and
began to speak with other tongues, as the Spirit gave them utterance.
